Past Events:

Golf for Go-Karts: September 2019 @ Hiddenbrooke Golf Club, Vallejo, Ca
In 2019, Golf for Go-Karts picked one special racer, William Ferguson. In the Spring, William won the Challenge of the Americas, which allowed him entry into the ROK Cup Final at the Truffeo D'Autunno in Italy. William faced the financial challenges of competing internationally and was willing to do anything to get to this race.

HOW WE HELPED:
In September 2019, we put together a golf tournament at Hiddenbrooke Golf Club in Vallejo, Ca. This sponsorship is unlike traditional sponsors. We helped William with his public speaking and interpersonal skills, speaking with potential sponsors and local businesses. At this fun filled day of golf, we included breakfast and lunch to our guests, and has multiple local businesses reach out to support this incredible athlete. We also facilitated multiple fun tournaments within the event, to add additional value.

In total, we were able to fundraise $5,000 to cover a majority of Williams expenses to compete in Italy. Racing the ROK Cup Final was an incredible learning experience for him, which has pushed his racing career along, where he later raced the ROK the Rio Final in Las Vegas, NV. His growth in karting is continuing to expand as he is moving up from TAG racing, into Shifter in the 2020 Racing Season. We look forward to seeing what William can accomplish!

The 2019 ROK The Rio event held in Las Vegas, NV is undoubtedly one of the most competitive Kart races North America has to offer. Talented shoes from all around the world come to compete against the best to showcase their talent and skill in hopes to walk onto the top step by the weekends end.

Day 1

The first day of the prestigious event was spent learning the track in five practice sessions with the last three being timed sessions. Getting faster with every lap, Garg would look to end the day 5th fastest out of a large 48 Kart field.

Day 2 & 3

Picture
Day 2 consisted of Qualifying and Heat 1 racing, where Bijoy would go on to qualify 7th overall. Heat one proved to be similar as he contended inside the top 10 to better his position but an unfortunate insident on the last lap would put him down to 23rd.

Three more heat races would follow for the third day of racing and the goal of the day would be to recover from yesterday’s ending result. The second heat saw Bijoy move up to 16th, keeping that momentum, the third heat would have Bijoy place 13th. One last heat of the day looked promising as the speed and momentum were on the young pilots side but yet another unfortunate racing incident would place Bijoy on the sidelines in a DNF, forcing him to watch the race as a spectator.

With the Results calculated, a 19th starting position was not ideal for the final but considering how well the Speedsense Motorsports tuned Kart, Swedetech Racing built ROK GP, and the motivated young pilot were working together, there was no shortage of confidence.

Day 4

Picture
Day Four’s Morning warmup proved the changes made were correct, posting 4th quickest lap time against the stacked field of competitors giving Bijoy the reassurance of where he should be in this fight for the lead. As the start went underway a mess of Karts started to battle each other, all fighting for the next spot. In this fight, two karts collected in front of Bijoy and forced him to stop on track and wait for them to clear before finally being able to continue in the 46th position. That did not stop Garg from a phenomenal drive, making up positions as quickly as possible to finish in the 22nd position.

Rok the Rio: In Review

Overall, Rok the Rio was a great experience. While “It wasn’t the result we wanted out of the weekend but knowing I had the speed and pace to be in the front gives me even more reason to come back and do it again. I would like to thank everyone who has supported me to get to where I am today.”
Bijoy Garg has the help and support from his team Speedsense Motorsports, Engine builder Swedetech Motorsports, and all of his family and friends. The 2019 racing season is over, but you will still find Bijoy Garg at the racetrack practicing and preparing for his first race of the 2020 racing season at Musselman Honda Circuit out of Tucson, AZ for the ROK Challenge of the America’s.
